The debate about the 2025 Budget in Argentina has entered a crucial stage, with the discussion of the project continuously postponed due to the lack of consensus to sign a report and present it to the Chamber of Deputies soon.
Deputy Carlos Heller (UxP) expressed his concern about the current project, which he claims seeks to consolidate a model of fiscal adjustment and destruction of the state, and goes against the interests of voters.
Carlos Heller stated: "The project aims to consolidate a model of fiscal adjustment and destruction of the state."
Some opposition legislators have raised concerns about the absence of modifications in the budget project, suggesting possible agreements between the ruling party and governors that could affect areas outside the official budget. The opposition has criticized the lack of clarity regarding the fiscal rule mechanism, cuts in programs due to declines in revenue, and taxes to adjust in case of increases.
Radical deputy Fernando Carbajal (Democracy for Ever) has hinted at the possibility of hidden agreements that could result in Contributions from the National Treasury if Decree 846 remains in place.
In this vein, Germán Martínez pointed out that the government seeks to uphold Decree 846 and mentioned pressures that would be interfering with the decisions of the blocs regarding the budget. Martínez suggested that if the government manages to maintain the decree, it could lose motivation to approve the Budget.
Deputy Carlos Zapata, the only ruling legislator to speak in the debate, highlighted the importance of defining the role of the state in resource distribution, pointing out the need for a state that serves the citizens.
Amidst this debate, governors have also expressed concern over issues such as the distribution of national resources and complained about the lack of transfers for Health and Education programs. Despite scheduling a new meeting for next week, no common strategy seems to be emerging.
In summary, the debate on the Budget in Argentina is at a critical point, with divergences between the ruling party and the opposition, and tensions regarding possible agreements outside the official project. The coming days will be key, with special sessions planned to address issues such as "clean record" and the repeal of presidential decrees.
